What type of kit or equipment will I play on?
Electronic Drums
Gareth teaches on a high quality Roland TD-9KV V-Tour series electronic drum kit. These are electronic drums designed to respond physically like a real drum under the impact of your sticks. They provide every nuance of an acoustic kit from the outside to the centre of the skin. Furthermore, you can choose what kind of kit you would like to play from a choice of 99 drum kits (including rock or jazz kits) or create your own custom kit samples with over 1,000 instruments.
Gareth is now teaching students on Roland's flagship, state of the art percussion unit, the new Roland SPD30 Octapad percussion rig.
Both tutor and students can wear headphones, and Gareth will instruct through a headset.
Acoustic Drums
Gareth plays a Mapex Saturn acoustic drum kit and uses Paiste cymbals.
Percussion
Udu 2 Udongo Drum
(West African Clay drum)
Djembe
(Meinl PROADJ2-L Professional Mahogany African "Village")
Cajon
New to drumming or percussion?
Beginners can get started with "No Experience Necessary!"
Gareth will teach you the coordination needed between your feet and hands to play the modern five piece drum set.
Will I be safe?
Safety is a huge deal for 'On The Road' drumming.
Gareth is fully CRB checked. Gareth's easy going enthusiastic nature means you will be looked after at all times and you will enjoy learning to build upon your skills, confidence and technique as a drummer.
Gareth has extensive experience of teaching young children; children with learning and behavioural difficulties and adults with physical disabilities. Gareth will cater for both right and left-handed players.
How old do I have to be?
Gareth will teach ANYONE wishing to learn. Currently his youngest drummer is 2 years old! You're never too young or old to start learning.
I am currently teaching children and adults in Hertfordshire, London, Middlesex and Essex.
What will I learn?
Gareth will get to establish and get to grips with your taste for music. He will mould, adapt and build confidence in your technique to kick back and play what you would like to play. Be it loud rock music or acoustic brushwork playing techniques, accent and strength control, timbre, improving fills, rudiments, relevance, delivery of fills, the theory and psychology of drumming, beginning and finishing songs, drum solo work, intro's and outro's to songs, studying and playing songs of your choice and any requests needed to improve your playing.
Students can play along with their favourite CD tracks to get the real feel for drumming and playing along with songs using a monitoring system in the electronic kit.
He will also teach you everything from sitting properly at the drum kit to drum tuning. No matter what anyone will tell you, every drummer is different and will have their own playing technique and own ears for drumming.
Gareth teaches the Trinity Guildhall and Trinity Rock School syllabuses. He will train you with sight reading techniques and prepare you for the examinations.
Got a drum kit at home?
Gareth will teach you from your home if it suits you.
Gareth will teach you on your own kit at home, or studio drumming can be arranged.
Gareth can also transport all equipment (with the exception of the acoustic kit) - please refer to the "What type of kit or equipment will I play on?" section above for a choice of kit you can learn on.
